Southern Oregon University:

A distinctive campus that sparks creativity, collaboration, and adventure while connecting students with community and careers. Outstanding!

Looking for a major in theatre, Emerging Media and Digital Arts, Outdoor Adventure Leadership, or Environmental Studies? Searching for a creative and practical approach to learning? Interested in a three-year baccalaureate degree—or an Honors College?

SOU is an outstanding choice, right here in Ashland.
Through internships, mentor relationships, field study, capstone projects, and civic engagement, we connect students to faculty, to other students, and to our local communities. We transform university education into purposeful experience.

At SOU, about 6,500 students explore the arts, sciences, humanities, social sciences, and professional programs. The newly opened North Campus Village provides beautiful residential and dining facilities.

SOU enriches our region. If you seek partnership and support for your small business, you could work with the Small Business Development Center at the RCC-SOU Higher Education Center in Medford and engage interns from the MBA or Master in Management programs in our School of Business.

We offer remarkable experiences. If you’re interested in the arts, attend an array of student and professional performances on campus, produce videos at our Digital Media Center, and explore the Schneider Museum of Art. Attend lectures and exhibits at the Hannon Library. Enroll in a wide array of classes offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).

And cheer our SOU Raiders as they compete in football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and other varsity sports.

THE HOUSE EXPERIENCE
Join us in a new learning adventure that will change your life and the world around you.

An SOU House is not a building and not a major—it’s a community of learning and doing, built on common interests, creativity, and collaboration. Houses allow you to meet most general education requirements while solving real-world problems outside of the classroom.

Our first two houses, the Social Justice House and the Green House, were launched this past fall.

SOU Houses are designed for you, the engaged and energetic student. The Houses are your opportunity to create positive change regardless of your field of study. Whether you plan to major in the arts, sciences, humanities, education, or any other SOU program, you can apply your strongest passions and talents in a House program to make a real difference.

MCNAIR SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program was established in 1989 and the grant funds are administered by the U.S. Department of Education. Funds are awarded to institutions of higher education to prepare eligible participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. Participants are from disadvantaged backgrounds and have demonstrated strong academic potential. Institutions work closely with participants as they complete their undergraduate requirements. Institutions encourage participants to enroll in graduate programs and then track their progress through to the successful completion of advanced degrees. The goal is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society. In October 2003 Southern Oregon University received a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to offer this program.

About the Program
The SOU Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is one of the TRIO programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education and is one of only 158 McNair programs in the United States. The SOU McNair Program is specifically designed to ensure that the student Scholars complete their Bachelor degrees, enroll in graduate school, and have the knowledge, skills, and background preparation that are required to successfully complete a doctoral (Ph.D.) program.
